Transfusion Medicine

Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank is a section of the Division of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology at the University Medical Center. Transfusion Medicine is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Transfusion Medicine is responsible for providing safe and compatible blood and blood component products for transfusion therapy. The policies and procedures of this laboratory are written to ensure compliance with the guidelines established by the AABB, CAP, FDA, CLIA, and JCAHO.

Location: Transfusion Medicine is located on the first floor of the hospital in room S101-01.

Hours of Operation: Transfusion Medicine is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Consultations: Inquiries regarding compatibility problems, unusual test results, requests for non-routine tests and/or blood products, etc., may be directed to the pathologist and chief technologist at extension 42394. The pathology staff and residents are available 24 hours a day for problems. See the current monthly call schedule for after hours, weekends, and holidays.
