Section: Surgical Pathology: The surgical pathology section provides gross and microscopic analysis and interpretation of all tissue samples obtained from patients, including diagnostic biopsies and therapeutic resections. Bone marrow biopsies and lymph nodes are generally analyzed in the hematopathology laboratory in the Division of Clinical Pathology. Tissues resected for bacterial, fungal or viral cultures are generally handled in Clinical Pathology (Microbiology), although some special stains for organisms are performed in the histology laboratory for surgical pathology specimens. Outside slides for patients at University Hospital and Clinics should be submitted to Surgical Pathology for confirmation of the diagnosis.
Location: The Surgical Pathology/Histology Laboratory is located in the School of Medicine, second floor, Room N-208 (North Wing).
