The Jackson Medical Mall Laboratory is a section of the Division of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology at the University Medical Center. This lab is inspected by the College of American Pathologists. Therefore, policies and procedures are written in accordance with those standards.
Location and Telephone Numbers: The Jackson Medical Mall Laboratory is located on the second floor of the UHC at the Jackson Medical Mall located at 350 West Woodrow Wilson Drive, room MD204-2A.

Hours of Operation: The Jackson Medical Mall Lab is in operation from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Objective: The purpose of the Jackson Medical Mall Laboratory is to provide quality laboratory services in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, limited therapeutic drugs, limited blood bank (dispensing only), and limited microbiology for the ambulatory clinics.
A comprehensive quality control program is maintained to assure the accuracy and precision of each patient result. Any request for special needs or special tests should be made through the chief technologist.
Consultations: If any problems should arise, or any special circumstances occur, please contact the chief technologist at 815-8823 or 815-8820. The pathology staff and residents are available 24 hours a day to assist with your emergency or special needs. See current monthly call schedule for after hours, weekends, and holidays. Call the laboratory at the main campus (984-2350) or the hospital operator.
Routine Requests: Routine requests are processed five days a week, in the order in which they are received. The turn around time for the routine tests is two hours, but usually less. Some test procedures that are more extensive and require additional preparation are batched. All lab requests received in the Medical Mall Laboratory that are not routinely performed on site are sent to the main campus lab for analysis. Collection of Specimens: Protocol for collections can be found in the individual sections of the handbook. These protocols should be followed to avoid specimen contamination and provide quality patient care. Phlebotomy services are provided five days a week 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
All specimens received in the laboratory that are not collected by the Medical Mall phlebotomists should be labeled (legibly) and include the following:
- Patient name
- Patient's 7 digit history number
- Requesting physician
- Patient location
- Date and time
- Test
- Sample drawn by (initials)
